Understanding the numbers at a glance

Forty income statements consolidated in Excel. Just get good insights out of that. With our new service 'One Week Report Makeover' we showed Koppert Biological Systems how it can be done differently in just one week. With visual dashboards that immediately provide clear insight into the figures. Our proof-of-concept was warmly received. We could immediately get to work to develop it further.

Koppert produces sustainable solutions for growing food and ornamental crops. Think of bumblebees for natural pollination or the use of natural enemies to control pests. The global company operates in twenty-seven countries, all of which produce their own comprehensive profit and loss statements. All those figures are consolidated in an already sophisticated Excel solution. This makes Koppert's overall results easy to understand. However, due to strong growth, analysis at the detailed level is becoming increasingly difficult. For example, to see the figures per country, product or cost type, you have to scroll through a lot of tabs and tables.

Business managers can also easily gain insight into analytics themselves

In one week, we developed a model using Microsoft PowerBI, compiled all the numbers from the Excel sheet into it and created interactive, visual dashboards. These dashboards provide at-a-glance insight into key performance indicators of Koppert. These include turnover, costs and margins overall, but also the results per country, subsidiary or product. Is a meter or figure in the red? Then an analysis is now a lot faster and clearer through the proper visualization of the results. For example, by seeing visually on a country map in the dashboard how the country's results have been, you quickly know where the big differences have been. By clicking on the country, you get an overview of the country's results. This makes the analysis easier. In this way, Koppert is no longer dependent on only the business analyst to interpret figures, but the Business Managers themselves can also gain insight into the analyses.

"You quickly dive deeper into a problem."

Green light for building interactive visual dashboards

After presenting our proof-of-concept, we soon got the green light to proceed. That was at the end of September. A month later we were able to deliver the final result. It also makes it possible to switch from annual, to quarterly and monthly figures at any time. And you can easily use it to make predictions or compare results. For example, how does performance compare to last year? And how do the realized figures compare with the budget?
Koppert is pleased with the dashboards. We received feedback that they not only look nice, but also work quickly. Now the company will start using them in practice. We are curious about the experiences and are happy to work with them on the next step!
